I just learned that the title of this post is a(n apparently) well known quote from Edsger W. Dijkstra.

I like it, and I fully agree. And along with the following, it makes up my design philosophy:

In order to achieve it, design has to, at some point, shift from a creative mode to an editor mode, stripping away the parts of the creation that are extraneous.

The illustration selected could also be used to show that brevity does not equal clarity.
